Overview

This guided Grampians trek combines moderate to difficult walks at both the northern and southern ends of the Grampians, with wonderful local produce and cuisine. It is a combination of getting out into nature with friends and then dining with them at night. We have specifically crafted this trip so people will return home with great memories, a sense of achievement, and a greater appreciation of what regional cuisine can offer.

Our base for the weekend will be the stunning homestead of Eagle Wings Rise. Just outside of Halls Gap, Eagle Wings Rise is an idyllic home with great views of the Grampians. It is where we will sit down for a nourishing breakfast each day and will host our first nights' dinner. Set on 50 acres with views of the Mt William Range, Eagle Wings Rise is the perfect place to start and end each day.

Each day will be filled with excellent walks through the Grampians escarpment. We will take you away from the more popular trails, deep into the mountains and up to ridgelines with incredible views of the surrounding ranges and hinterland. Lunches will be provided by a local Deli, so we will find a perfect place to set up lunch along the way (more than likely with a view).

One of the highlights of this adventurous weekend will be dinner at the famous Royal Mail Hotel in Dunkeld. Before dinner, we will have a tour of their 28,000 bottle wine cellar before dining in the Parker Steet Project.

The Grampians will provide you with stunning walks, beautiful accommodation, and delicious food and drinks. What more could you possibly want? This is a great weekend adventure for couples or friends alike!

Routes

Day 1 Thursday: Halls Gap is a 3-hour drive from Melbourne. We expect most people will arrive at around 6 pm. On arrival, refreshments will be available (a Prosecco or local ale) followed by predinner canapés and then a 3-course meal. We will source several local wines combined with local produce. During dinner, we will brief you on the following day's activities. (D)

Day 2 Friday: Today we will take in the northern end of the Grampians along the newly opened Grampians Peak Trail. After a wonderful fresh breakfast including delicious loaves of local bread, we will head out for our first walk of the weekend. Mt Difficult is our ultimate destination. While the name conjures up steep ascents, the trail has only short steep staircases that will take you to the next fold in the layered landscape. Views from Mt Difficult are incredible as two escarpments crash together into one giant point. Along the ridge, we will find a comfortable place for lunch. Lunch will be a mixture of local and international produce.

From the summit of Mt Difficult, we will head down through a gully back to our awaiting vehicle via Briggs Bluff. We then transfer back to Eagle Wings Rise for a freshen up before heading out for dinner in Halls Gap. (B, L, D)

Day 3 Saturday: Today will be a slower start as we are going to explore the parks southern section before dining in Dunkeld.

After a delicious breakfast, we will head into Halls Gap for the famous walk up to the Pinnacles Lookout. This is a couple of hours of pleasant walking. From there we will head to a local eatery for lunch.

We will return to our accommodation to freshen up before heading out to the southern region about a 45 minutes drive away. Towering over this region is the iconic 800 metres plus Mt Abrupt. We will take in a wonderful walk to the summit before heading back down to Dunkeld and the famed Royal Mail hotel. Take a tour of its 28,000 bottle cellar and then dinner at the hatted Wickens and its' Chefs Tasting menu. After dinner, we head back to our accommodation. (B, L, D)

Day 4 Sunday: We love Sundays and you will too as there is no more walking but just a delicious breakfast at our lodgings. From here you have several options, maybe a round of golf or a drive to along the Great Ocean Road. We can certainly give you some ideas of what to see on your return to Melbourne. (B)
