  • Seeing the almost prehistoric Komodo Dragons in the flesh. The largest lizard on the planet, they can grow to be 3 metres long and 150 kilograms in weight!
  • Paddle amongst some of the most remote and pristine islands in Indonesia that few people have ever visited
  • Visiting a local fishing village gives us the chance to see and appreciate what life is like on the water
  • With no commercial fishing allowed within the National Park, you get to snorkel amongst pristine coral reefs with large schools of fish (there's even the opportunity to SCUBA dive)
  • The consideration given to environmental impact, so everything taken into the islands is brought back (and our crew clean the beach of litter left by others)! We've added waste disposal bins to the islands for any visitors to use, and provide all guests with environmentally sound water bottles
  • The six day kayak experience is perfect if you want to test out kayaking and see if it is for you
  • Experience sleeping out under the stars in spacious Safari tents on a deserted beach!
  • You choose your balance of activities and relaxation time. The stunning support boat is there for you to lounge on and read a book, or you can choose to kayak and snorkel the day away
  • All your internal flights and accommodation is included in the six day package. The perfect holiday package if you want to leave all the planning to us

Background

The service was on our expedition was exceptional, beginning with the professional and friendly local Manager Fitri, who met us and provided the easy start to our adventure. Once on board our very comfortable vessel we met the outstanding crew and guides, Flori, Matius, and Cua our ship’s captain and the others who simply could not do enough to make our journey and activities so memorable. Especially Flori and Matius who ensured we were always safe, enthralled and informed through their knowledge, skills and care.

The kayaks and Komodo dragons proved to be beyond my expectations, a ten out of ten. The boat was well equipped and comfortable. Our meals were always a tasty affair and the large esky of drinks was a very welcome addition to the facilities on board.  So much snorkelling opportunities meant everyone at some stage chose to have a laze on deck while others swam about.

The highlight for me amongst so much fun and was the manta rays!!!!! Simply incredible.  (Michael - Australia)

This six day Kayaking trip begins and ends in Bali or Jakarta and is the perfect holiday to dip your toe into the world of kayaking and to see the incredible Komodo Dragons.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this please contact our office to discuss this further.

THE KOMODO DRAGON
Komodo Dragons are the largest lizard still living on Earth, but they are not the largest reptile. Alligators and crocodiles get bigger than Komodo Dragons.

Komodo Dragons are a monitor lizard. Their scientific name is Varanus Komodoensis. These mighty beast can grow up to 3m in length and can weigh as much as 150kg. But don't let their slow nature fool you, when food or mating are involved, the Dragon can run nearly 30km per hour, which is equivalent to the speed of a dog.

Komodo Dragons drool copiously. Their saliva is not only venomous, but the mouth of a Komodo Dragon is also full of bacteria that a bite from one almost always leads to infection. If untreated, the infection is usually fatal. This is one way in which the Dragons get food. They hide in the scraggly jungle and wait for a victim to pass by. The victim is most often a deer, carabao or goat. The Dragon attacks the prey, and may succeed in killing it on the spot. Otherwise, the bites sustained by the victim will generally kill it eventually, and the Dragons will then eat the carrion.

The giant lizards have powerful claws which they use to devastating effect in fights with other lizards. Males have scratching fights with each other during mating season.

The Komodo National Park is made up of over two dozen islands between Sumbawa and Flores. These prehistoric looking islands are home to the Komodo Dragon, a creature that time seemed to forget.
Komodo Dragons are excellent swimmers, and could swim from one island to another but fortunately they are ectotherms and therefor are not able to stay in the water for too long to avoid lowering their body temperature.

The island of Komodo has many beautiful beaches where a visitor can play and swim, but the presence of Komodo Dragon foot- and tail- prints in the sand warns the visitor to be cautious and watchful.

MARINE LIFE
Some of Komodo's beaches have beautiful pink sand, tinted by fragments of red coral mixed in with other shell and coral fragments. Other beaches have gray sand derived from cliffs of rhyolite. Heavy black sand composed of nearly pure magnetite accumulates next to the cliffs.

The snorkeling and diving around Komodo are some of the best in the world, especially for seeing soft corals. A professional diver told us, "You know, when you're a diver, you spend your life dreaming of and searching for the best dive site in the world. Well, Komodo is it."

INDONESIAN TOURIST VISA
Australian citizens and citizens of the United Kingdom do not require a visa on arrival. They are entitled to a free entry visa stamp for tourist purposes which is valid up to 30 days but can not be extended.

For all other nationalities, please check the Indonesian entry and visa requirements.

Routes

Day 1: Bali or Jakarta
Upon your arrival in Bali/Jakarta you will be met at the airport by your driver and transferred to your hotel for your overnight accommodation.  Depending on the time of your arrival you will have free time to relax before an evening meeting with a No Roads Representative (Bali only) who will provide you with your domestic etickets and information required for the following day. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 2: Bali/Jakarta - Labuan Bajo (Komodo National Park) - Pungu Island  (B,L,D)
Today you will fly Bali/Jakarta to Labuan Bajo and upon arrival at Komodo Airport, you will be met by our No Roads Local Manager and transferred directly out into the Komodo National Park to meet the rest of the group and the No Roads support boat. Hopefully, you will have some time in the afternoon for a spot of snorkelling or kayaking before sitting back and enjoying the sunset over the surrounding islands and dining on the beach. Overnight in Safari style tents on Pungu Island.

Day 3:
Pungu Island - Kukusan - Gado  - Rinca village - Kaaba (B,L,D)
This morning starts with the option for an early morning snorkel just off the beach of Pungu Island before breakfast back on the support boat - always a great way to start the day!  Before you begin kayaking, your Guide will give you a safety briefing and then you will be all set to paddle your first leg of the day, which will either take you to Kukusan Island or Rinca Village.  If school is in, at these villages, you will pay a visit to the students before exploring life on either of these islands. The next leg of kayaking is to Gado - with its’ wonderful mangroves and some amazing snorkelling in a spot with giant table corals, plenty of fish and turtles, who hopefully swim by to say hello.  After lunch and some more snorkelling you will either paddle or travel on the support boat to a small mangrove island (Kaaba), which is inhabited by bats.  This is a wonderful sight enjoyed from our top deck  - watching thousands of bats flying into the night sky for their evening meal.  Overnight in cabin on support boat in the park. Kayak 7.2km & 9km by boat (approximately)

Day 4Rinca - Manta Point - Sebayur Kecil (B,L,D)
Early morning you will rise and boat to the Rinca Ranger’s Office to look for Komodo Dragons. Rinca (pronounced Rin - cha) is the best place in the park to see the Dragons as their numbers and density are larger here than Komodo Island. You will be shown around the Park by a trained Ranger who will explain the eco-system, the Dragon's habits and the life of other inhabitants on the island such as the Macaque, Buffalo, Deer, Tree snakes etc.  After your trek and a drink at the Ranger's Cafe' you will start heading west on the support boat to Manta Point. One of the highlights of this trip is snorkelling with the manta rays at Manta Point and hopefully, these gracious animals will delight you with their presence. After lunch, you will then start paddling towards Sebayur Kecil for your last beach camp of the expedition.  Sebayur Kecil has a beautiful beach with some great coral reefs and fish population so a spot of snorkelling in the late afternoon or early the next morning is certainly encouraged. Overnight in Safari style tents. Kayak 10 km and 9km by boat (approximately).

Day 5: Sebayur Kecil - Kanawa - Labuan Bajo - Bali/Jakarta (B,L)
After enjoying your last breakfast out in the beautiful Komodo National Park, and maybe a swim or snorkel just off the beach, you will then make your way paddling through the Mangroves towards Kanawa for one last snorkel and swim.   It is then time to return to Labuan Bajo in the afternoon and bid farewell to your Guide and the Crew before you catch your flight back to Bali/Jakarta.  Kayak 10km (approximately).

Day 6: Your amazing adventure comes to an end and you are free to continue your travel plans or return home. (B)
